SLASH NEEDS TO BE COERCED TO COVER ELO SONG

Slash

Velvet Revolver, having had their latest album 'Libertad' peak at #5 on the Billboard top 200 chart recorded two well known cover songs and the band actually had to coerce Slash into recording one of them. The two songs the band included on 'Libertad' were 'Psycho Killer' by The Talking Heads and 'Can't Get It Out of My Head' by Electric Light Orchestra, which was written by Jeff Lynne. Velvet Revolver have been known to cover many songs live in concert from 'Across The Universe' by The Beatles to 'Aint Talking Bout Love' by Van Halen to 'Wish You Were Here' by Pink Floyd, but this was the first time the band included a cover on either album. We caught up with Dave Kushner, Slash and Matt Sorum of Velvet Revolver to get the story behind Slash not exactly being thrilled, at first, to record the song.

"(Sorum) None of us chose those." "(Slash) I was really into the Talking Heads one. The ELO song it took them about a week to coerce me into even thinking about it." "(Sorum) Didn't you have dinner with the ELO guy?" "(Slash) I did. Yeah I had dinner with Jeff one night at a dinner party and he walked in and we were all hanging out and talking and I was like 'We just recorded one of your songs." "(Sorum) And I didn't really want to." "(Kushner) Did you tell him the part when producer Brendan O Brien suggested it and you said you had to go get something at your house that day and never came back?" "(Slash) No, I didn't tell him that." "(Sorum) It came out great. I think it came out really cool."

Velvet Revolver have just released their second single off of 'Libertad', which is 'The Last Fight.' The band also recently performed at KROQ's LA Invasion on September 15th along with The Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Cypress Hill, Perry Farrell's Satellite Party, Chris Cornell, Kid Rock, Hot Hot Heat and Paramore. Velvet Revolver will continue their tour in support of 'Libertad' with dates extending in The U.S. and Canada until October 26th in Irvine, California.
