With their exception of their participation in the Music For Relief show earlier this year, 2005 is a down year for Linkin Park. While most members of the band are resting, the band's MC, Mike Shinoda is keeping busy.
Shinoda is set to release a hip-hop influenced album under the moniker, Fort Minor. The album is set to be released this summer, and it features special guests, Common, Black Thought of the Roots, Kenna, Styles Of Beyond and new female vocalist Holly Brook. With that in mind his bandmate, vocalist Chester Bennington says that Shinoda is also setting the stage in writing for the next Linkin Park album.
"I think some of us are more anxious to get back to work than others. I think Brad wants to take the rest of his life off and sleep. I know Mike is a workaholic, so I can't really see him sitting around. I give it up to his wife because she has to be the same kind of person he is because there's no way you can possibly live with Mike and feel like you're getting any quality time. The guy spends more time with his pro-tools rig than with himself. It's interesting I think all of us are kind of in a different place."
Shinoda's Fort Minor will release the album, titled Rising Tied, at some point in the summer, and the highlight of the album insiders say is the still-untitled track with neo-soul master John Legend.
Meanwhile, Linkin Park's Bennington said the band is looking to write songs later this year for the follow-up to their sophomore effort, Meteora.
